Cranberry’s Hardman 27-2 in fencingCRANBERRY TWP — Aquinas Academy student and Cranberry Township resident Harry Hardman closed out the regular high school fencing season with a 27-2 individual bout record.As team captain, Hardman led the Crusaders to a 6-3 record in the regular season.Hardman will soon return to the national circuit and compete in the Division 2 Men’s Foil event at the U.S. Fencing Association North American Cup in Cleveland March 10.

SRU’s Pantuso repeats PSAC honorSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University junior Alex Pantuso has been named PSAC Western Division Pitcher of the Week for the second successive week.Pantuso struck out 14 and allowed one hit and no runs in six innings vs. Kutztown. The 14 strikeouts marked the most by any Division II pitcher in the region so far this season.

SR grad Thompson top region athleteSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High School graduate and Slippery Rock University senior mid-distance runner Ryan Thompson has been named Atlantic Region Male Track Athlete of the Year.The award comes via vote of the Atlantic Region coaches. Thompson posted the fastest time in the region in the mile (4:05.72) and 3,000 meters (8:27) this year.

Rock’s Daugherty earns coach honorSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University volunteer assistant track and field coach Cameron Daugherty has been named Atlantic Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.A former Division II national champion and Academic All-American at SRU, Daugherty works with The Rock pole vaulters, who dominated the PSAC and formed one of the top units in the region.
