Roughly 3,600 Penn Power customers in Butler County had no electricity early this morning. But power was restored shortly after 8 a.m.

Chris Eck, Penn Power spokesman, said the largest number, 1,100, were in Butler Township. Oakland Township had another 500.

Eck said a tree fell, affecting a subtransmission line in the East Butler area, sometime this morning.

Today’s outages followed another significant one Tuesday morning that affected 3,800 Penn Power customers.

Eck attributed the outages to windy conditions.

“It brings down the weakest branches,” he said.

Eck said most of those outages were in Butler and Butler Township.

Among the buildings affected were the Butler senior and intermediate high schools, Northwest and Center Township elementary schools, and Butler County Vocational-Technical School.

Business and traffic signals also were impacted.

Power was restored to all but five of those customers by 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Eck said if the winds are too severe, repair crews must wait before going up to repair lines.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory until 7 p.m. today.

Eck said customers should be prepared for problems if more trees or limbs fall.

However, he said the company adds repair personnel when adverse weather is forecast.
