CRANBERRY TWP — Broken water lines along Route 19 and Central Drive have left some residents and businesses boiling their water.

About 50 residents and 19 commercial properties were affected by four water line breaks that happened over the weekend, township officials said. They believe the water system was overpressurized and the lines ruptured in weak spots, said Jason Dailey, the township’s public works director.

Boil water advisories were hand-delivered on Monday afternoon to those affected by the line breaks, Dailey said.

The letters are a precautionary measure required by the State Department of Environmental protection, which also requires the township to test the water lines for bacteria over two consecutive days. If the tests come back clean the township will issue another notice announcing that the advisory has been lifted, Dailey said.

The advisory comes after two lines broke along Route 19 and Central Drive on Saturday morning. Later that day another break was reported on Clearbrook Court. The township repaired the lines, flushed them and tested them for chlorine levels, Dailey said. The breaks were all repaired by Saturday night.
