SRU’s Carpenter, Jones gain honorsSLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University women’s point guard Lexi Carpenter and men’s guard Naquil Jones have been named All-PSAC West in basketball.Carpenter made first team after leading the PSAC with 19.1 points per game and an 88 percent free throw accuracy. A hip flexor injury ended her season after 20 games.Jones made second team on the men’s side, averaging 14.2 points and 2.9 assists per game.
Seman trying out for national teamPITTSBURGH — Seneca Valley graduate and University of Pittsburgh sophomore volleyball player Angela Seman is trying out for the United States women’s national team in Colorado Springs this week.Seman tallied 486 digs this past season as Pitt’s top back-row defender. She has 1,018 digs in her career.Panther teammates Kamalani Akeo and Stephanie Williams are also trying out for the team.
Wise gets repeat all-academic berthPITTSBURGH — Cranberry Township resident and University of Pittsburgh sophomore Brenna Wise has earned her second consecutive All-ACC Women’s Basketball Basketball Academic Team berth.Wise owns a 3.918 cumulative grade point average as a marketing major. She led the Panthers with 14.3 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, 89 percent free throw shooting accuracy and 29.5 minutes per game.
SV grads shining for Behrend volleyballERIE — Seneca Valley graduates Tyler Herrmann and Anthony Sprentz helped the Penn State Behrend men’s volleyball tam post a 25-19, 25-17, 25-19 win over D’Youville Thursday night.Herrmann had 10 kills and Sprentz 13 assists. Sprentz needs six assists to reach 1,000 for his career.Red Sox pitcher Price won’t need surgeryAfter David Price consulted two renowned orthopedic doctors, the Boston Red Sox said Friday the left-hander will not need surgery or an injection in his ailing left arm.Price traveled to Indianapolis on Thursday for consultation with Drs. James Andrews and Dr. Neal ElAttrache, who were at the NFL Combine. Price is expected to return Saturday to Boston’s spring training complex in Fort Myers, Florida.“Indy is a little chilly right now so I’m gonna head back to fort myers! My 40 time was 4.11...ill let one of you name my island,” Price tweeted Friday.Manager John Farrell said the findings represented a best-case scenario for Price.
