Police: Butler couple tried to steal 2 TVs
A Butler couple — both repeat shoplifters — is accused of trying to haul away a couple large-screen televisions from the Walmart at Butler Commons.
Butler Township police on Monday filed felony charges against Albert J. Mastrocesare Jr., 33, and Surenu E. Frank, 32.
The charges are in connection with the pair’s alleged shoplifting excursion Dec. 21 at the Butler Common’s Walmart. The suspected crime was caught on store surveillance video.
Police said the footage showed Mastrocesare pushing a shopping cart that contained a 50-inch TV and Frank pushing her own cart with a 65-inch TV in it. Along with the television, Frank’s cart was filled with cases of soda pop and numerous other groceries.
The value of the unpaid merchandise, according to court documents, totaled $1,346.91.
Mastrocesare and Frank both face a pair of felony charges — retail theft and conspiracy. Each defendant, police said, has at least two prior shoplifting convictions.
