Joan T. Van Atta

Joan T. Van Atta, 70, of Mars died Sunday evening at Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford with her loving family by her side.

Born in Pittsburgh on Dec. 8, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Florence Thieleman Rounce.

Joan had been a baker for Eat 'n Park in Gibsonia.

She had belonged to St. John Lutheran Church in Mars and she loved to sew and enjoyed crafting, but most important in her life were her children and, especially, her grandchildren.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara McMonagle of Mars and Paulene Nilson and her husband, David, of Slippery Rock; a son, Wayne R. Van Atta of Mars; her grandchildren, Matthew and Justin McMonagle, Elise and Nick Coroian, and Veda Nilson; three brothers, Herman Rounce and his wife, Patti, Robert Rounce and his wife, Debbie, and Carl Rounce. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

VAN ATTA — There will be no calling hours for Joan T. Van Atta, who died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017.Friends are invited to a celebration of Joan's life at 4 p.m. Saturday at the LifePointe Alliance Church, Mars Alliance, 997 Route 228, Mars, with the Rev. Gary Dindinger officiating. The family will greet friends at a luncheon following the service at the church.Memorials may be made to the Butler County Humane Society, 1015 Evans City Road, Renfrew, PA 16053.Arrangements are under the direction of the McDonald-Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Crowe Ave., Mars.Condolences are available at www.mcdonald-aeberli.com.
