Charles Rodgers Sr.

Charles Edward “Chuck” Rodgers Sr., 89, of St. Joe Road, Butler, went to be with the Lord Thursday evening at the VNA Inpatient Hospice while surrounded by his loving wife and family praying the rosary.

Charles was born in Rattigan on June 10, 1927. He was the son of Charles Joseph and Catherine Shields Rodgers.

Mr. Rodgers was a long-time member of St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church in Butler. He enjoyed farming, golfing, and most especially the company of his family.

He was employed at DuBrook Cement in Butler, where he drove a cement truck for many years; he retired as a dispatcher.

He is survived by his wife, Mary “Ruth” Graham Rodgers, whom he married at Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora on Nov. 11, 1948.

Six children survive, Charles Edward Rodgers Jr. and his wife Patricia of Butler, Teresa Flemming and her husband Merle of Petrolia, Shirley Vernon and her husband Dan of Butler, Donna Snyder and her husband Bill of Fenelton, Sue Parker and her husband Allan “Butch” of Chicora and Lucy Amerson and her husband Stephen of Butler; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul A. Rodgers, and his wife Patricia of Fenelton; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Rodgers was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda; a granddaughter; two great-grandsons; four brothers; and four sisters.

RODGERS — Friends of Charles Edward “Chuck” Rodgers Sr., who died Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017, will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora-Fenelton Road, Chicora.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Monday at St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, 210 St. Wendelin Road, Butler, with the Rev. Matthew McClain, church pastor, as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in North Oakland.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Rodgers’ name may be made to St. Wendelin Roman Catholic Church, 210 St. Wendelin Rd., Butler.
