Virginia E. Franko, 90, formerly of Butler, died Jan. 18 at the Copperfield Estates Retirement Facility in Houston, Texas.

She was born Dec. 19, 1926, in Worthington, a daughter of the late Daniel and Olive Hindman Young.

She graduated from Worthington High School, then received her nursing degree from the Butler Nursing School and had worked for Butler Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, the Ladies Guild at St. John's and the Nursing Guild of Butler County.

Surviving is her daughter, June A. Sneed; her grandsons, Joey (Danielle) Sneed and Chris (Brooklyn) Sneed; her great-granddaughters, Savannah, Khloe and Emarie Sneed, and her great-grandson, Mason Sneed, all of Houston, Texas; one sister, Frances McAfoose of Aliquippa; her son-in-law, Rick Sarver of Hollister, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Franko Jr., who she married Sept. 25, 1949, and who died Sept. 4, 2015; her daughter, Janice Sarver; her granddaughter, Gwen Sneed; her great-grandson, Mekih; and her sisters, Helen Goephart and Ester Ray.

FRANKO — Friends of Virginia E. Franko, who died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, will be received from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Leo Schlosser, pastor of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church in Lyndora, will officiate.
