Vernon “Shakey” Harold Gretsinger

Vernon “Shakey” Harold Gretsinger, 77, of Butler passed away Saturday at his home.

He was born Aug. 13, 1939, in Punxsutawney, Pa., to the late Vernon Clair Gretsinger and the late Maxine Smith Gretsinger.

Mr. Gretsinger was a graduate of Punxsutawney High School. He then went on to receive his license from the Pittsburgh Barber School. Vernon worked as a master barber for Pines Plaza Barber Shop and a bartender at Pieces of Eight Lounge, Highway Inn and the Bakerstown Hotel before retiring in October 2000.

Mr. Gretsinger was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church. Vernon enjoyed collecting steins, pewter Indians and Zippo lighters.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Mae Swatsworth Gretsinger, who he married Sept. 19, 1960; one daughter, Teri K. Ruffner, and her husband, David, of Butler; one granddaughter, Rachel L. Ruffner; one sister, Carol Ann Mitchell, and her husband, Norman, of Punxsutawney, Pa.; his sisters-in-law, Sandra Gretsinger of New Fane, N.Y., and Mary Morgan of Rockton, Pa.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, William and Sally Swatsworth of DuBois, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Tammy Lynn Gretsinger; and his brother, William Gretsinger.

GRETSINGER — There will be no public visitation for Vernon “Shakey” Harold Gretsinger, who died Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017.A Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the New Testament Baptist Church, 437 N. Duffy Road, Butler, with the Rev. David Bobbitt, officiating.Arrangements are being handled by the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the New Testament Baptist Church, 437 N.
