Jean Alice MacKinney
Jean Alice MacKinney, 98, formerly of 541 E. Pearl St., Butler, died peacefully in her sleep Dec. 21 in Thomasville, Ga.
She was the last of eight children, six girls and two boys, to Mont Mercer MacKinney and Anna Marie Beck MacKinney. She was a graduate of Grove City College and Carnegie Mellon University.
Her working career was largely devoted to Mount Lebanon Senior High School in suburban Pittsburgh. For many years, she was the chief librarian devoted to encouraging young students to read and study. Miss Jean and her sister, Anna Marie MacKinney, donated the resources to establish a youth reading room at the Butler County Library.
She is survived by 75 nephews, nieces and many generations beyond.
MACKINNEY — Services for Jean Alice MacKinney, who died Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2016, will be conducted in August in Butler.
