A car was damaged in an accident involving a pedestrian Tuesday in Oakland Township.

OAKLAND TWP - A pedestrian suffered moderate injuries after being hit by a vehicle around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon on Route 68.

Earl Shankle Sr., 69, of Chicora was crossing the street to get his mail when he was hit by a Volkswagen Passat being driven westbound on Chicora Road by Madison Weitzel, 19, of Butler.

Shankle suffered head, leg and arm injuries and was transported by Butler Ambulance to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh. He was conscious and alert following the accident. The Passat sustained severe front hood and windshield damage and was towed. Butler State Police and volunteer fire departments from Chicora and Oakland Township were on scene.
