Howard Allyn Connell

Howard Allyn Connell, 84, of Worth Township, Slippery Rock, passed away at 1 p.m. Sunday at his home.

He was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Worth Township, to Frank P. Connell and Mabel Double Connell. He graduated in 1952 from Slippery Rock High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Germany between 1953 and 1955.

He married Marjorie May Cory Nov. 8, 1957, and she preceded him in death May 8, 2008.

Howard was a machinist at Nordstrom in Grove City for 14 years. He later worked as a welder for Reznor in Mercer, retiring in 1994.

Howard was a member of Wolf Creek Presbyterian Church, later called the Friendship Parish, in Worth Township, where he served as an elder and church treasurer.

He enjoyed farming, hunting and carpentry work. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by two sons, Russell A. Connell and his wife, Marcia, of Slippery Rock, and Randall L. Connell and his wife, Anna, of Volant; his daughter, Doris J. Connell and her husband, James Wright, of Edison, N.J.; and two great-grandsons, Tyler and Noah Hodges.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Brown and Mary Fury; and one brother, Arthur Connell.

CONNELL — Funeral services for Howard Allyn Connell, who died Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Donna Yanosy, pastor of Friendship Parish, presiding.Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and 10 a.m. until time of service at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will be at Wolf Creek Cemetery, Worth Township.
