Former elementary nets $800K

The Mars School District will sell the former Middlesex elementary building for almost double the original offer that was on the table. At $800,000, Concordia Lutheran Ministries of Jefferson Township was the successful bidder at a hearing Friday before Butler County Court Judge Michael Yeager in which Yeager served as a sort of auctioneer for two bidders interested in the property. Paul Brand, executive vice president at Concordia, said after the hearing that Concordia officials do not have any specific plans for the building. He also could not say when Concordia might take occupancy. The original bid for the building was S.A. Arias Holdings, which last year offered a $450,000 bid. That company withdrew its bid, and Claddagh Properties of Butler in October offered $400,000.
