A North Carolina man earlier this week waived three charges to court related to the alleged abandonment of two Doberman pinschers.

Robert J. Kisiel, 27, left the two dogs in the temporary care of L&L Kennel on Hartzel Road in Jackson Township on Aug. 16, 2016. He told the kennel owner he would retrieve the dogs on Aug. 21.

When he did not show up, the kennel owner called him and was asked by Kisiel to extend the contract by one more day.

Kisiel again failed to pick up the dogs, and began giving the kennel owner “the run around,” according to court documents.

The kennel owner then called police, and Jackson police officer Tim Amrhein also made several calls to Kisiel to no avail.

When Kisiel neither answered nor returned repeated calls from both the kennel owner and Amrhein, the kennel owner considered the dogs abandoned,

According to legal requirements, the kennel owner sent a registered letter to Kisiel at his North Carolina address informing him that the dogs had been relinquished to a Doberman pinscher rescue group.

The letter was returned unsigned and undelivered, according to the police report.

The kennel owner provided a list of costs to Amrhein for the dogs' extended care that totaled $1,366.

Kisiel was arrested and charged in October 2016 with two counts of dog abandonment and one count of theft of services.

He waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday before District Judge Wayne Seibel.
