Frederick L. McKnight Sr.
Frederick L. McKnight Sr., 85, of Renfrew passed away at 9:01 a.m. Thursday at LifeCare Hospital in Natrona Heights.
Born Oct. 15, 1931, in Butler, he was the son of the late Donald Arthur McKnight and the late Anna Pearl Garvin McKnight.
Fred was an operator engineer for Local Union 66 for Masuda Corp. He was Protestant. Fred was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora. He also had interest in oil wells. Fred was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War and receiving the Purple Heart.
Fred is survived by one son, Fred McKnight Jr., and his wife, Vicki, of Butler; two daughters, Beverly Ann Quinn and her husband, Bill, of Renfrew and Terry Brittner and her fiancé, Ben McCommons, of Slippery Rock; one sister, Edith McKnight Snyder of Corry, Pa.; six grandchildren, Michael Hilliard, Chris, Tim and Tricia Wissinger, and Benjamin and Angela McKnight; five great-grandchildren, Austin Hilliard, Brooke and Breonna Wissinger, and Alayna and Olivia Weeks; and several nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Marion McKnight, who he married July 25, 1953, and who died Aug. 28, 1993; one grandson, Phillip Hilliard; three sisters; seven brothers; and one son-in-law, Thomas Brittner.
MCKNIGHT — Friends of Frederick L. McKnight Sr., who died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Officers and members of the American Legion Post 117 of Butler, the American Legion Post 778 of Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 of Butler will conduct military honors at the funeral home following the service.
