Doris Elizabeth Oesterling Piper

Doris Elizabeth Oesterling Piper, formerly of Butler, passed away peacefully Wednesday at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh with her children by her side.

Doris was born Oct. 14, 1929, in Clearfield Township, the daughter of the late Adrian H. Oesterling and Loretta B. Kramer Oesterling.

She graduated from Butler Senior High School in June 1947. Doris married James E. Piper on July 23, 1955, in St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Butler. They celebrated their 50th anniversary July 23, 2005.

Doris worked as a secretary in the office of Pennsylvania Refining Co. in Butler for 13 years before relocating to Titusville when her late husband accepted a position with Universal Cyclops Specialty Steel Division in 1960.

Doris was a member of St. Titus Church in Titusville. Her hobbies included sewing, travels and visits with her family. She also loved watching tennis matches and Pirates baseball on TV.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas E. Piper and his wife, Betty, of State College and Gregory E. Piper of Pleasant Gap, Pa.; two daughters, Loretta P. Geiser and her husband, Ken, of Philadelphia and Patricia E. Lombardi and her husband, John, of Adamstown, Md.

She had 10 grandchildren, Luke, Quinton and Ethan Piper, Amanda, Zachary and Kenny Geiser, and Johnny, Maximo, Vincent and Tony Lombardi; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Piper, on Nov. 25, 2005; her sister, Margaret Oesterling; her brother, A. Hugh Oesterling Jr., and his wife, Barbara; her sister, Luella J. Oesterling, who died in infancy; her sister-in-law, Frances Piper Kay, and her husband, Greydon Kay; her sister-in-law, Pearl Piper Seitz, and her husband, Ray Seitz.

PIPER — Visitors for Doris Elizabeth Oesterling Piper, who died Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017, will be accepted from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hennes-Garrett Funeral Home, 203 E. Main St., Titusville.A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Titus Church in Titusville with the Rev. D.G.
