Phyllis E. Johnston Lee
Phyllis E. Johnston Lee, 91, of Saxonburg passed away Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital
Born Aug. 5, 1925, at the Saxonburg Hotel, and delivered by Dr. Lasher, she was the daughter of the late Robert Leon Stewart and Lenora Lassinger Forsythe.
She attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in journalism and made the dean’s list. She broadcast over the college radio station WHJB. Phyllis was a switchboard operator for the North Pittsburgh Telephone Co., worked at the Saxonburg Post Office and was a flagger during World War II.
She was an active member of the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church. She taught the Gleaner’s class at the church, taught the communicant class and also was very active in the Altar Guild and the church choir.
She was the president of the Sassy Senior’s Club, a member of the Red Hatter’s Club, a former president of the Knoch Band Parents and a former secretary of the PTA. Phyllis was also a Girl Scout leader.
She loved reading, swimming, taking classes at Butler County Community College and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Richard W. (Terri) Johnston of Butler, Phyllis Sharon (Robert A.) Doorn of Anaheim, Calif., and Barbara Kubala of Greenville, Pa.; eight grandchildren, Todd Johnston, Clint (Becke) Kiddle, Sarah (Josh) Mariacher, Dillon Kiddle, Sharayah Kiddle, Norryannah (Matthew) McCandless, Brett McDonald and Christine Coddington; four great-grandchildren, Liam Kiddle, Collin Kiddle, Shayla Kopp and Cole Coddington; two stepsons; two stepdaughters; six stepgrandchildren; and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Johnston; her second husband, J.L. Lee; her stepfather, Clarence Keefer; her stepson, Robert Lee; and one granddaughter, Renee Pacheco.
LEE — Friends of Phyllis E. Johnston Lee, who died Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fox Funeral Home, 410 W. Main St., Saxonburg.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Saxonburg Memorial Presbyterian Church with Carmen Shullo officiating. Interment will follow at the Saxonburg Memorial Church Cemetery.
