Dorothy Joan O'Brien McDonald

Dorothy Joan O’Brien McDonald, 93, of Butler, died Friday afternoon Friday at New Haven Court.

Born Feb. 16, 1923, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Sadie O’Brien.

She was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, also St. Andrews Ladies Guild and Christian Mothers.

She was a graduate of Butler Business College. She was a homemaker and, during World War II, worked at Deshon General Hospital as a civilian transportation officer. She later worked at the Butler County Community College bookstore.

She loved playing bridge and had played in the same group of friends for more than 50 years.

Dorothy was the widow of Loyal “Mac” M. McDonald, who died Sept. 29, 2000.

Surviving are her six daughters, Mrs. John (Donna) Parker of Dunedin, Fla., Mrs. William (Sally) Hise of Finleyville, Pa., Mrs. Barry (Susan) Hootman of Mars, Mrs. John (JoAnn) Krueger of Tulsa, Okla., Mrs. Victor (Jan) Nieto of Butler, and Mrs. Russ (Mary Beth) Hearn of Butler; two sons, Fred Y. (Carol) McDonald of Cody, Wyo., and Doug (Kelly) McDonald of Butler; eight grandsons; eight granddaughters; four great- grandsons; five great-granddaughters; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother, as she was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

MCDONALD — Friends of Dorothy Joan O’Brien McDonald, who died Friday, Dec. 30, 2016, will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext.

Everyone is asked to please meet at the church.

The Rev. Nick Argentieri, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Butler.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Dorothy Joan McDonald to St. Andrews Roman Catholic Church, 1660 N. Main St. Ext., Butler, Pa. 16001.
