State review request made after advisoryPITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh’s City Council is calling on the state to investigate the city water authority’s contract with a private corporation after this week’s boil-water advisory that affected 100,000 customers.The council is requesting an audit and an investigation into the Pittsburgh Water and Sewer Authority’s contract with Veolia.The move comes after the PWSA issued a boil-water advisory Tuesday evening affecting 100,000 customers, including hospitals, schools and restaurants. The advisory was lifted Thursday.Mayor Bill Peduto said Thursday there was no trace of bacteria that can cause diarrhea in the city’s water, even though some tests Tuesday evening showed there wasn’t enough chlorine in water treated at one plant.

Samsung considers new factory is U.S.SEOUL, South Korea — South Korea’s Samsung Electronics said today it’s considering building a factory to make household appliances in the United States as various industries brace for potential protectionist trade policies under the administration of President Donald Trump.A spokeswoman for Samsung said the plans were “purely in the evaluation stage” and no decisions have been made. She didn’t want to be named, citing office rules.Samsung also said in an e-mailed statement today that it continues to assess “new investment needs in the United States.Most Samsung televisions, refrigerators and other household appliances sold in the United States are made in Mexico.
