Weather causes crashes

Slick roads likely played a role three collisions --- involving at least nine vehicles --- that occurred before noon today on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township.

All of the collisions happened near mile marker 82

A crash involving five vehicles and another crash involving two vehicles occurred separately in the northbound lane. Those crashes resulted in minor injures, and no one was transported to the hospital, authorities said.

But another accident, which occurred in the southbound lane at relatively same time, sent a woman and her young son to the hospital in a Cranberry Township EMS ambulance, officials said.

Cranberry Township Fire Department Captain Jeff Gooch identified weather conditions as a possible factor in all of the crashes.
