Richard K. Makin

Richard K. Makin, 84, formerly of Saxonburg, passed away Dec. 18.

He was born June 21, 1932, to Darragh and Sarah Makin of Swissvale, Pa.

Mr. Makin graduated from Penn Hills, then served in the U.S. Army.

He raised his children in Saxonburg and later moved back to Penn Hills.

Mr. Makin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Darragh; his sister, Sue; and his son, Richard, formerly of Saxonburg.

Mr. Makin is survived by his daughter, Charlene, and Curtis Eller, of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Sandy Makin of Saxonburg; his son, Bill Makin, and his wife, Dana, of East Bernard, Texas; his grandchildren, Nicole, Rick, Rob and Rachel; and his great-grandchildren, Andy and Calvin.

Mr. Makin, who was known as “Pap” to many, was an outstanding father, a wonderful grandfather, a gardener and an amazing cookie maker, and he loved animals. He was generous and kindhearted. He will be missed by many.

MAKIN — Friends of Richard K. Makin, who died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the William F. Gross Funeral Home, 11735 Frankstown Road (at Rodi Road), Penn Hills, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will take follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Blinded Veterans of America, 1000 Liberty Ave., #1606, Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
