Reacting to statements by the chancellor of the State System of Higher Education about the shaky health of the system, SRU president Cheryle Norton said she welcomes the stategic review.

“We agree with the board of governors and Chancellor Brogan that to make effective decisions, they must be data driven,” Norton said. “Such a review would compile data that is necessary for the state system to make important decisions that best serve the people of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.”

Norton also highlighted SRU’s status as one of the few state system schools that has posted steady enrollment gains in recent years. She said that trend continued for this spring semester, with the university announcing it’s day-one head count as 8,307 students — an increase of 152 students from the state of 2016’s spring semester.

“That is a solid and sustained enrollment which allows the university to retain one of the top stops on the State System’s financial dashboard,” Norton said

About 90 percent of the 100,000 students in the system are Pennsylvania residents, according to a State System spokesman.
