SRU dancers to perform 'In Our Element'
BUTLER TWP — Junior and senior Slippery Rock University dance majors will participate in the SRU Dance Theatre Winter Concerts “In Our Element” on Feb. 4.
The concerts will be at 2 and 6:30 p.m. in the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.
Malena Maust of Butler will be among the 14 student dancers presenting their adjudicated choreography.
Maust has created and will perform a solo that reflects her personal experiences.
Through self-reflection, Maust developed movement motifs that evolved during her rehearsal process. The result is a four-and-a-half minute solo called “The Final Act.”
Maust also will perform a featured role in a dance by professional choreographer Matthew Shaffer. And she will perform in veteran SRU dance faculty member Teena Marie Custer’s “Quake,” a contemporary dance work comprised of blended house, street and break dance forms.
Additionally, Maust will perform in two classmates’ works by senior student choreographers Lindsay McGivern and Monica Traggiai.
Both “In Our Element” concerts will feature junior and senior dance majors group and solo works that were selected from the SRU dance theatre adjudication concerts in November.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $11 for senior citizens, youths and SRU students.
Tickets are available at the SRU Smith Center Information Desk, online at www.sru.edu/offices/student-center-and-conference-services/tickets, and at the Succop Theater box office beginning one hour prior to each performance.
