Ruth F. Griffin, 87, of Butler passed away Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 15, 1929 in Butler, to the late Raymond C. Rager and Leona F. Daugherty Rager.

Ruth worked for and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, and she was known for her catering throughout Butler County.

Ruth was a charter member and past royal matron of the Order of the Amaranth, Butler Court 145 White Shrine of Jerusalem, and a past member of the Maqueda Order of the Eastern Star. She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post 249 Butler.

Mrs. Griffin is survived by her one son, Vern E. Smith, and his wife, Donna L., of Butler; one daughter, Cynthia R. Monks, and her fiancé, Bill Lafferty, of Fenelton; five grandchildren, Erann Lynn Smith Heltzell and her husband, Eric, Jason R. Smith and his wife, Lyndsey, Shawn R. Smith and his wife, Ashley, Samantha M. Swigart and her husband, Jay, and Alexis H. Monks; three stepgrandchildren, Lindsay Schweiger and her husband, Ricky, Amanda Newcomer and her husband, Jonathan, and Eric Reinstadtler and his fiancée, Alyssa Yourish; four great-grandchildren, Matthew Carter Heltzell, Kinsley Ann Smith, Mason Grant Heltzell and Bryson R. Smith; four stepgreat-grandchildren, Addyson and Emeryson Schweiger and Giuliana and Makenna Newcomer; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Eugene LeRoy Smith, and her second husband, Swannie W. Griffin, who she married June 1, 1964, and who died Jan. 26, 1995; one sister; and three brothers.

GRIFFIN — Friends of Ruth F. Griffin, who died Sunday, Dec. 18, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 200 E. North St., Butler, with the Rev. Eric Park officiating.
