Rock swept by UPJ

SLIPPERY ROCK — Dale Clancy sank a pair of free throws with 4.5 seconds left Wednesday night at Morrow Field House, handing Pitt-Johnstown a 59-58 men’s basketball win over Slippery Rock.

SRU (10-8, 6-6) led 58-53 with 2:23 left, but missed the front end of two one-and-ones in the final 25 seconds while not scoring again. Merdic Green had 21 points and five rebounds, Vinny Lasley 12 points and 10 boards for The Rock.

Clancy paced the Mountain Cats (12-6, 7-5) with 18 points and five assists.

Pitt-Johnstown 88, SRU 84 (women) — Despite its highest point total of the season, The Rock slipped to 8-10 overall, 6-7 in conference play.

Lexi Carpenter produced her third straight game of 32 points or more, netting 32, dishing out 11 assists and grabbing three steals. Mallory Heinle scored 15 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson produced five rebounds and two steals off the bench.

Victoria Moreland led the Mountain Cats (7-11, 3-9) with 33 points while Jaime Tabon had 26 points and 17 rebounds.

Both SR teams host Edinboro Saturday afternoon. The women’s game is at 1 p.m., the men’s contest at 3 p.m.
