NEW CASTLE — Federal agents have fined a family-owned fireworks business in Pennsylvania $200,000 and ordered the business closed for two week after learning an employee stole fireworks.
Zambelli International Fireworks, of New Castle, says, “This is a very serious issue that relates to poor record keeping,” which the company has been ordered to improve.
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives won’t comment because the investigation is continuing.
But Zambelli says state police discovered the missing fireworks in 2014. Nobody has been charged. It wasn’t immediately clear what kind or amount of fireworks were stolen, or why.

GETTYSBURG — A Pennsylvania businessman wants to build a harness racing track and casino near Gettysburg, the site of the 1863 battle that turned the tide of the American Civil War.
David LeVan said he will apply for a harness racing license and a license to operate a casino with slots and table games.
The proposed location on about 700 acres is just east of where U.S. Route 15 crosses the Maryland-Pennsylvania line. It’s about 3 miles from the border of Gettysburg National Military Park.
