N. Gail Cooper Baker

N. Gail Cooper Baker, 92, of Butler passed away Monday at the VNA Inpatient Hospice.

She was born May 27, 1924, in Slippery Rock, to the late Finley Wimer Cooper and the late E. Jayne Wade Cooper, on the family dairy farm where she lived until her college graduation.

Gail graduated from Slippery Rock State Teachers College in May 1945. She then went on to teach second grade in New Castle until her marriage with John A. Baker in 1955. Gail was a homemaker and she considered her most important accomplishment that of raising her children.

Gail was an active member of the Hill United Presbyterian Church, participating in the Joann Griffith Circle and Tuesday morning Bible Study, and also serving as an elder.

Gail is survived by her three daughters, Kerry McElhaney and her husband, Pete, Marcia McCaw and Brenda Baker; one son, Brian Baker, and his wife, Juli; five grandchildren, Megan McElhaney, Lauren McElhaney, Natalie McCaw, Bret Baker and Meredith Baker; one sister, Doris Hohri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Baker, who she married Sept. 23, 1955, and who died Sept. 28, 1982; two brothers, Wade Cooper and Wendell Cooper; and one grandson, David McCaw.

BAKER — Friends of N. Gail Cooper Baker, who died Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 2nd St., Butler.Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. James R. Steiner, interim pastor, officiating.Interment will take place at the Greenlawn Burial Estates.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler, PA 16001, or Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 2nd St., Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
