Bluegrass festival makes return

BUTLER TWP — This year marks the 20th January Ice Jam, scheduled Friday and Saturday at the Butler Days Inn on Route 8. Admission is free.

The Ice Jam allows listeners, new musicians and veteran players to enjoy camaraderie through bluegrass music.

With well over 2,000 people in attendance yearly, the Jam offers listeners and musicians areas large and small to gather to play.

The Ice Jam originated as a way of bringing hundreds of “Bluegrassers” together during the winter months.

As many as 28 different bands will donate their time playing traditional, contemporary and gospel bluegrass. Many even donate CDs of their own bands for raffles. Monetary donations also are accepted to benefit the Bluegrass Relief Fund.

The Ice Jam officially begins when the first band takes the stage at 7 p.m. Friday. Music resumes at 1 p.m. Saturday. Bands play 30 minute sets up until about 11 p.m. both nights.
