Despite shooting just 32.7 percent (16-of-49) from the field, Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team survived a defensive battle at Mercyhurst Tuesday night in a 49-46 decision.

Naquil Jones scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds for SRU. Khyree Wooten contributed 10 points.

The Rock (9-4, 5-2) has now won six straight games.

Women’s BasketballSRU was outscored 26-8 in the second period and dropped a 79-54 decision at PSAC-West frontrunner Mercyhurst.Lexi Carpenter scored 15 points and had five assists for The Rock. Brooke Hinderliter added 10 points and Morgan Henderson 10 rebounds.The Rock (7-6, 4-3) controlled 31 rebounds to 48 for the Lakers.
