BROOKSVILLE, Fla. — Twins delivered at a Florida hospital over the New Year’s weekend have different birth years, with one born in 2016 and the other in 2017.

News outlets report that Geraldine Alexander of Spring Hill gave birth to her daughter, Yuliana, at 11:43 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Hospital in Brooksville. Her son, Zayne, arrived one minute after midnight.

Not only is Zayne technically a year younger than Yuliana, his twin sister weighed 7 pounds even, while Zayne’s weight was 6 pounds and 14 ounces.

AMARILLO, Texas — A poisonous gas believed to have been released when someone tried to wash away a pesticide that had been sprayed under a Texas home killed four children and left six other people hospitalized, officials said Monday.

Phosphine gas was likely released when water mixed with the pest control chemical, Amarillo fire officials said. A specific cause of death had not been released for the four children Monday. The other six people who were in the home are “not out of the woods yet,” fire officials said.

Crews who responded to a 5 a.m. call to the home originally thought it was related to carbon monoxide poisoning, Amarillo fire Capt. Larry Davis said in a statement. One child died at the scene and three others died at a hospital.

Davis said all four people who died were residents of the home.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Customs and Border Protection issued a statement Monday saying a processing system outage caused delays at various airports.

CBP officers continued processing international travelers using “alternative procedures” until the system came back online but waits were longer than usual at some airports, according to the statement.

Officers still had access to national security databases and all travelers were screened according to security standards during the outage, the CBP said.
