SRU basketball wins 5th in row

GREENSBURG — The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team completed an unbeaten month of December Friday by posting a 72-64 victory at Seton Hill.

The Rock (8-4, 4-2) has won five straight games. SRU returns to action Tuesday night at Mercyhurst.

Khyree Wooten scored 21 points for The Rock while Naquil Jones added 20, 15 in the second half. Wooten also had eight rebounds, two assists and a pair of blocked shots.

SRU had a 46-24 edge in points in in the paint and has outrebounded all 12 of its opponents.

Noah Davis scored 21 points for Seton Hill (5-5, 2-4) while Tyler Bowling added 17.

SRU (women) 72, Seton Hill 59 — The Rock extended its winning streak to four games, matching its longest such streak in the past 13 seasons.

Lexi Carpenter overcame a rough shooting night — hitting just four of 18 shots — to score 16 points and collect five assists. Brooke Hinderliter had 13 points and eight rebounds, Mallory Heinle 12 points and four boards.

Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson contributed six rebounds for SRU (7-5, 4-2).

Jenna Kaufman paced Seton Hill with 18 points while Chrisanna Green grabbed 16 rebounds.

The Rock seeks its first five-game win streak since the 2000-01 season when it plays Tuesday at Mercyhurst.
