CHICORA — A Chicora man was charged with aggravated assault after allegedly threatening to kill someone while holding a knife.

Jamie Todd Pyle, 46, is accused of threatening Andrew Jones, age and residence unavailable, with the knife Friday evening, saying he would kill Jones if another road incident occurred between them.

According to the affidavit, Jones and his friend, Caleb Young, were traveling on Route 68 when Pyle's vehicle began tailgating them while flashing high beams.

Both vehicles subsequently pulled into the Rummy Mart parking lot.

According to the affidavit, “Jones related that he attempted to open his door when the driver of the vehicle grabbed him by the throat and pulled him out of the vehicle. Jones related that he brandished a knife and held it in the area of his stomach and stated 'If you ever (mess) with me again on the highway, I'll kill you.'”

The affidavit stated Young told state police the same version of what happened. Neither account indicated if anything precipitated the tailgating despite Pyle's alleged comments.

Police were dispatched to the store at 8:37 p.m. Pyle's red Buick was identified through witness accounts before Jones and Young positively identified Pyle's photo as the man who pulled the knife.

Pyle was subsequently arraigned Tuesday before District Judge Lewis Stoughton.

In addition to aggravated assault, Pyle is charged with terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended registration, driving with a suspended license, following too closely and approaching a vehicle from the rear within 300 feet using high beams.

He is jailed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Along with setting the bond, Stoughton ordered Pyle have no contact with the victims and wear a SCRAM (Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor) unit, which detects alcohol consumption through transdermal testing.
