Margaret Lorraine O'Neil

Margaret Lorraine O'Neil, 95, of Butler, formerly of Prospect, died Saturday morning at the VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Margaret was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Pittsburgh, and was the daughter of Michael and Margaret Gunther Grant.

She had worked as a telephone operator for the Pennsylvania Railroad.

Margaret was a member of the St. Christopher At The Lake Catholic Church in Prospect, where she helped with many dinners. She also volunteered at the Mt. Chestnut Senior Center and the Butler V.A. Hospital, where she escorted patients, ran errands and worked in its post office. Margaret was presented a “Volunteer of the Year” award by the U.S. Postal Service for her outstanding commitment to volunteer service in the community.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Johanna Grant; her nieces, Lorraine Grant and Kathy (Dan) Janicik and her family; her nephews, Robin (Deb) Grant and James (Eileen) Grant; and several other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, John “Jack” O'Neil, who she married April 2, 1955, and who died Oct. 25, 1960; one sister; and seven brothers, including her brother, Donald.

O'NEIL — Visitation for Margaret Lorraine O'Neil, who died Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Jay Bryan Funeral Home in Prospect.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Christopher at the Lake Catholic Church in Prospect with the Rev. Joseph Feltz officiating. Burial will be at the Northside Catholic Cemetery in Pittsburgh.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Christopher At The Lake Catholic Church.
