18th century Nativity, towering trees on display
PITTSBURGH — There's much to entertain at the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History this season. Towering Colorado blue spruce trees have been adorned under this year's theme, “The Americas,” featuring inspiration from Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and the U.S.
The theme takes its cue from two exhibitions, “Hélio Oiticica,” showcasing the Brazilian artist, and “Building Optimism: Public Space in South America.”
The trees flank the museum's 18th century Neapolitan presepio Nativity.
These displays run through Jan. 9. The museums will close at 3 p.m. Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve and be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, though they'll be open Tuesday, when they're usually closed. Visit cmoa.org.
