Butler police investigating fatal overdose
Butler police are investigating the apparent heroin-related overdose death Wednesday of a 41-year-old woman at her West Quarry Street home.
Officers about 4:30 p.m. found Julie Ann Steffy dead on the bed of her second-story apartment, authorities said. A neighbor called 911 after stopping by the apartment.
Near the bed, according to a police report, was a heroin bag stamped with the name “Head Games” as well as two hypodermic needles and a cooking spoon.
Butler County Deputy Coroner Larry Barr pronounced Steffy dead about 5 p.m.
An autopsy was performed Wednesday night but a cause of death is pending. The final autopsy results and toxicology reports won’t be available for at least several weeks.
