A bomb threat to Mars Middle School led to the evacuation of the school Friday afternoon.

Superintendent Wesley Shipley said that around 1:30 p.m., a student discovered in the stall of a girl's bathroom a message written in what appeared to be pen threatening that a bomb would go off in the school at 2 p.m.

The student immediately notified the staff, who promptly contacted the Adams Township Police Department.

The building was evacuated and the students were taken on foot to Mars High School, where they finished the school day.

Shortly after 2 p.m., three bomb-sniffing dogs were taken throughout the entire school to check for bombs. The search was concluded shortly after 4 p.m., with no explosives found.

Activities scheduled for Friday at the middle school were canceled. Saturday's events also were canceled, though Shipley said that is because of the impending weather.

All personal belongings are to remain in the middle school until Monday. Homework is to be adjusted accordingly.

“Monday everything goes back to normal,” Shipley said.

Shipley said the response from parents has been positive.

“I think our parents are very understanding that our number-one priority is the safety of the students, and they understand that we have to take whatever measures (we can) to ensure the students' safety,” he said.

Shipley said there are currently no suspects as to who made the threat.

“We're still reviewing video footage, and the police and the principal are working on that,” he said.

This is the second bomb threat to an area school this week. Knoch High School and Middle School were evacuated Tuesday morning because of a bomb threat, also written on a bathroom wall in the high school.

A search was conducted, and no explosives were found.
