South Butler approves theater course

South Butler School District voted unanimously to approve a College in High School (CHS) theater course that will be offered this spring in collaboration with Point Park University.

The course, which will be held at Knoch High School, will allow students to earn college credits through the Pittsburgh-based university.

The program won’t cost the district any money, as it is being subsidized through a grant provided by the Pittsburgh Foundation, Richard Cavett, assistant superintendent explained.

The class will be taught by a Knoch High School teacher, but the students will likely visit Point Park University two times during the semester. Initially, the students were expected to visit the campus once per month, but instead, Point Park University will send professors to the high school a few times, according to Cavett.

The high school has about 10 students who are eligible to participate in the program.

College credits offered through this course will be earned through Point Park University, but can be transferred to some other colleges or universities.
