Philip K. Fuhrman

Philip K. Fuhrman, 84, of Buffalo Township passed away Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice Unit in Cabot while in the company of his family,

Phil was born Nov. 28, 1931, in Freeport. He was the son of the late Anna Kerr Fuhrman and Charles F. Fuhrman. He also was the widower of Shirley L. Snyder Fuhrman.

Phil was a 1949 graduate of Freeport High School. After high school, he attended the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his bachelor's degree in geology in 1954. Then, Phil joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for two years.

When he was discharged from the service, he took a job with PPG Industries. Phil was a glass technologist for more than 41 years and was awarded two U.S. patents for his research work with PPG. Phil and his brothers, Dick and Bob, also operated Fuhrman Brother's Painting for many years.

Phil was a lifetime member of St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He received the “Freeport Man of the Year” award in 1975 for his community service. Phil was an avid sports fan and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his five children, David A. (Nancy) Fuhrman of Bradford, Pa.; Brian P. Fuhrman of Arlington, Texas; Karl P. Fuhrman of Buffalo Township; Gary L. (Marian) Fuhrman of Butler; and Amy (Jeffrey Frerotte) Fuhrman of New Kensington.

Phil also is survived by his nine grandchildren, Shelly (Scott) Elliott, David “Pug” Fuhrman, Audrey Fuhrman, Brian Fuhrman, Lauren Fuhrman, Ryan (Jackie) Fuhrman, Lauren A. Fuhrman, Adrienne L. (Nathan) Fuhrman-Renwick and Aubrey A. Fuhrman.

He also is survived by his three great-grandchildren.

Phil was preceded in death by his three brothers, Charles, Richard and Robert Fuhrman; and his six sisters, Helen Ann Fuhrman in infancy, Rosemary Girardi, Kathleen Cassell, Louise Strellec, Elizabeth Leri and Jeanne Carol Wolfe.

FUHRMAN — Family and friends of Philip K. Fuhrman, who died Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the REDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High St., Freeport.A parting prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary, Mother of God Church in Freeport with the Rev. Ronald Maquinana officiating.
