CRANBERRY TWP — A Virginia man placed under arrest for public drunkenness Saturday morning allegedly head-butted an officer in the chest.

Phillip I. Glover, 25, of Grottoes, Va., is in Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail and faces multiple charges after an incident outside the Haven at Cranberry Woods apartments.

Police officers were dispatched to Creekview Circle around 5:15 a.m. for a report of a man loitering, yelling and attempting to break into vehicles, according to the criminal complaint filed by township police.

Officers reported finding Grottoes intoxicated from alcohol or drugs. He allegedly had blood dripping from his right hand and was holding a dog, which he claimed was his service dog.

When the officers attempted to place him under arrest he made his body rigid and resisted their attempts to get him into a patrol vehicle. At one point, he allegedly tried to head-butt officer Christopher Maloney in the face, but missed hitting him instead in the upper chest, according to the complaint.

Officers also discovered an Infiniti G37 with the rear window smashed and talked to witnesses who reported seeing Glover near the car and said he was repeatedly yelling the license plate number.

The damage to the car, which is owned by Lafeef Floami, was estimated at $1,200 by police, while Glover also allegedly caused $500 in damage to a police cruiser by getting blood on the seat.

He is charged with felony aggravated assault — injury to police for head-butting the officer as well as resisting arrest — as well as two counts of criminal mischief, loitering and prowling at nighttime, disorderl
