Melvin E. "Red" Thompson

Melvin “Red” E. Thompson, 76, of Butler passed away Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born Oct. 14, 1940, in Bakerstown, the son of the late Wilbert Thompson Sr. and Ada (Simmons) Thompson.

Melvin had been a brick and block layer as well as a truck driver for various companies. He belonged to the Family Life Ministries/Church of God of Prophecy on Mercer Road.

Surviving are his wife, who he married Sept. 18, 1959, E. Arlene (Parker) Thompson of Butler; his daughter, Michele Palmer and her fiancé, David Talkington, of Butler; his son, Jason E. Thompson of Butler; three grandsons, Dustin (Joy) Palmer of Cleveland, Tenn., Ryan Palmer and his fiancée, Miranda Jones, of Prospect and Tyler Thompson of Columbus, Ohio; one great-granddaughter, Skylar; two sisters, Betty Durham of Romulus, Mich., and Carolyn (Marty) Tate of Cleveland, Tenn.; one brother, Raymond (Ellen) Thompson of Bakerstown; his sister-in-law, Hazel Thompson of Eau Claire; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, James and Joanne Hughes Jr. and Lori and Don Wolabaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald Thompson and Wilbert Thompson Jr. and an infant brother.

THOMPSON — A memorial service for Melvin “Red” E. Thompson, who died Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Family Life Ministries/Church of God of Prophecy, 932 Mercer Road, Butler, with the Rev.
