The first snowfall of the season Tuesday precipitated a rash of accidents across Butler County.

However, Butler County 911 records indicate no one involved in more than 60 accidents that occurred between 1:19 p.m. and 1:04 a.m. today needed to be taken to a hospital.

“Most of those did not require a fire response or an EMS response,” said Steve Bicehouse, director of county emergency services.

Of the 13 accidents requiring more than a police response, vehicles either overturned, struck an object or went down a hillside.

The first accident, which was reported at 1:19 p.m., involved a tractor-trailer hitting a tree at the intersection of Black and Eau Claire roads in Marion Township.

A personal vehicle driven by volunteer firefighter overturned en route to the scene of the first wreck. The second accident was reported at 1:29 p.m.

Another vehicle was reported overturned at 1:58 p.m. on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township.

A pickup went over a hillside near the intersection of Spring View Lane and Oneida Valley Road in Concord Township, which was reported in 2:08 p.m. 911 call.

Along with numerous accidents, weather conditions also caused vehicles to be stuck.

Multiple vehicles were reported stuck on North Main Street in Chicora at 5:43 p.m.

The National Weather Service reports the county received between 2 and 4 inches of snow.

Meteorologist Rodney Smith said a couple of places received a little over 4 inches.

“It really started going at 11 a.m.,” Scott said.

He said the snow ended by 8:30 p.m.

Smith said snow may return tonight, but the bigger concern is the forecast of plummeting temperatures.

“The windchill will probably be below zero tomorrow morning,” he said.

Bicehouse, who also is the chief of the Evans City Volunteer Fire Department, said he already advised his crew to wear warmer clothing to any calls occurring during the cold snap.
