Frances Marie Wimer Johnson

Frances Marie Wimer Johnson, 95, formerly of Erie, passed away Oct. 29 at the Life Care Center of Altamonte Springs, Fla.

She was born Sept. 24, 1921, in Ellwood City, the daughter of the late Harry R. and Gladys Marie Schweinegruber Wimer.

Frances was a nurse's aide during her years after high school; however, once she and Jerry were married, she became the devoted wife and mother that endeared her to everyone she met. Although raising six children kept her busy, she was always involved in the Erie Garden Club until she was 89. She was active in the Woodhaven Association, where she lived for many years. She supported and corresponded with orphan children in the Philippines and this went on for several decades until she could no longer write the letters.

She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 60 years, Meredith “Jerry” Johnson; her son, Dennis Johnson; her brothers, Bill Wimer and LaVern Wimer; and her sister, Bernzetta Koscho.

Survivors include her daughters, Deronda (James) Harris of Jupiter, Fla., Bernzetta (Michael) Billen of Pleasanton, Calif., Cynthia Johnson of East Calais, Vt., and Mary Lou (Frank) DiFuccia of Hondo, Texas; her son, Thomas Johnson of Winter Park, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
