Joanne “Aunt Jo” Marcus

Joanne “Aunt Jo” Marcus, 84, of East Butler passed away Tuesday at VA Butler Healthcare.

Born April 24, 1932, in Butler, she was the daughter of the late George and Cleola Osche Marcus.

Aunt Jo served in the U.S. Army, retiring as a first sergeant. She retired in 1974 to spend time with her nephew, David Christy, who was terminally ill.

She lived in East Butler and recently lived at the Hospice Unit at VA Butler Healthcare. While at the VA Butler Healthcare, she received outstanding care and the staff treated her like family.

Aunt Jo blessed her nieces and nephews with her love and kindness.

Her love was her Maltese dog, Princess.

She is survived by two sisters, Dee Bacher and her husband, C.R., of Butler and Donna Christy of East Butler; three nieces, Diane Stephenson and her husband, Jim, of Slippery Rock, Tammy Neal and her husband, Charlie, of Herman, and Cathy Shields and her husband, Dave, of East Butler; three nephews, Denny Bacher and his wife, Penny, of Cabot, Robb Bacher of Mars and Ralph Christy Jr. of Butler.

Also surviving are eight great-nieces and great-nephews; and 10 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Marcus; and one nephew, David Christy.

MARCUS — Funeral services for Joanne “Aunt Jo” Marcus, who died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016, with full military honors will be at noon Saturday at the North Butler Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 137 N. Butler Church Road, Chicora, with the Rev.
