Helen Maxine Rumbaugh Smith

Helen Maxine Rumbaugh Smith, 73, of Sugarcreek Township passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Nov. 26, 1942, in Kaylor, she was the daughter of the late Wilbur P. and Helen V. McElhaney Rumbaugh.

Maxine attended the former Kaylor School and then graduated in 1960 from East Brady High School. She retired from Butler Memorial Hospital in 2001 after 40 years of service.

A member of St. Paul's Community Church, Maxine also was a member of the Kaylor Grange, the Armstrong Pomona Grange, the Pennsylvania State Grange and the National Grange.

She and her sisters were well-known for hosting bus tours for more than 25 years. She also enjoyed cooking and playing cards.

Maxine is survived by her husband, William K. Smith, who she married Oct. 6, 2001; her siblings, Howard Lee Rumbaugh and his wife, Cheryl, of Cabot, Robert W. Rumbaugh and his wife, Dolly, of Chicora, Alvin C. Rumbaugh and his wife, Tanya, of Chicora, Bernard Rumbaugh and his wife, Dianna, of Chicora, Lois A. Rumbaugh of Chicora and Dennis T. Rumbaugh, and his wife, Leann, of Butler; four sisters-in-law, Rachel Rumbaugh of Circleville, Ohio, Emily Rumbaugh of Harrisville, Rose Rumbaugh of Chicora and Cathy Rumbaugh of Cabot; her husband Bill's two children, Pam Crissman and her husband, Mike, of Worthington and Don (Sue Cornetti) Smith of Kittanning; and Pam's children, Holly McCausland and her husband, Nick, and their children of Rural Valley, and Todd Crissman and his wife, Tina, and their children of Renfrew; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Harry, Ronald, Richard, Jack and Donald; and two sisters, Ruthie and Virginia.

SMITH — Friends of Helen Maxine Rumbaugh Smith, who died Thursday, Oct. 27, 2016, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Cowansville.Additional visitation will take place from 2 p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 3 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul's Community Church, 2167 Route 268, Chicora, with the Rev. Ryan Lucas officiating. Burial will take place at the Oak Grove Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made in Maxine's memory at St. Paul Community Church, 2167 Route 268, Chicora.
