Evelyn I. Carben

Evelyn I. Shields Carben, 90, of Adrian, Mich., passed away Saturday at Magnum Care in Adrian.

She was born Aug. 22, 1926, in Valencia, to Wilbur Findley and Elizabeth Christina Beverage Porter. On Feb. 23, 1980, she married Earl Carben, and he preceded her in death.

Evelyn retired from the Army Navy Surplus Clothing Store in 1980. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Adrian. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, embroidering and reading, and she loved to camp.

Evelyn is survived by her son, Robert (Michele) Shields of Chicora; her daughter, Christine (Michael) Baughey of Adrian; two grandchildren, Terry Michael Shields and Lynndee Christina Shields; her great-granddaughters, Ashlee Shields; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Earl Carben, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Shields; her father, Wilbur Porter; three brothers, Melvin Porter, Glenn Porter and John R. Porter; and two sisters, Mable Pollock and Edna Burns.

CARBEN — Visitation for Evelyn I. Shields Carben, who died Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016, will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Thompson Miller Funeral Home in Butler. A private family graveside service for Evelyn will be conducted at the Worthington Presbyterian Cemetery.Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
