VALENCIA — A malfunctioning light fixture is the suspected cause of a fire that caused damage to a bus contractor's office Tuesday morning.

A fire at the W.L. Roenigk garage on James Street was reported around 9:15 a.m. No one was hurt and firefighters had the burning contained within minutes, limiting the damage.

The two employees working in the small office said that they noticed the lights were flickering that morning, Adams Area Fire District Assistant Fire Chief Tim Llewellyn said.

After observing sparks, coming from the attic of the office, they got out of the building and called 911, he said.

The first firefighter at the scene knocked down the burning ceiling and attic. The office, about 10-feet by 10-feet, is attached to a garage building, though there was no damage to the rest of the building.

Firefighters were able to salvage two computers, paper files and keys to vehicles, he said.

The fire and water caused damage to the ceiling, insulation and furniture in the office. Llewellyn estimated the damage to be $20,000.

The Callery, Wexford and Richland Township fire departments assisted at the scene. The area did not have access to fire hydrants, though the responders did not end up needing tanker trucks, using only about 200 gallons of water.

W.L. Roenigk is a busing contractor based in Sarver, according to the company's website. They provide school buses, vans and wheelchair accessible buses to numerous school districts including Mars, Freeport and South Butler.
