JOHNSTOWN — Police are investigating the suspected drug overdose death of a one-time Butler County reform school student during a weekend house party.

Angelo Toliver, 16, of Pittsburgh was found dead Sunday morning at the home on Hudson Street in Johnstown.

It appeared that the boy had been dead for at least several hours about 10:15 a.m. when 911 was notified, Johnstown police Capt. Jeffrey Janciga said Monday.

Police continue to investigate the death, including how Toliver ended up at the house. The teen was believed to be the only youth among at least eight people at the house partying over the weekend.

Toliver had recently been a student at Summit Academy in Summit Township, but went missing about a month ago.

On Oct. 4, according to Academyspokesman Dick Roberts, he was taken from the facility to the Allegheny County Courthouse for a hearing in juvenile court.

But while the teen was there, he fled prior to the hearing. Authorities were notified and a bench warrant was issued.

“The student was never returned to Summit Academy,” Roberts said.

At some point, Toliver made his way to Johnstown and ended up at the house on Hudson Street over the weekend.

A 19-year-old man who lives at the home called 911 after Toliver was found dead on the floor of the two-story home. He was last seen alive late Saturday night or early Sunday morning on the downstairs living room couch.

Janciga said that as officers got there, most of the other party-goers were seen scattering away from the house.

Inside, police said, the home smelled of marijuana. But no drugs were found during a search, Janciga noted, indicating that the occupants could have thrown out any incriminating contraband before police arrived.

The man that lives there and another young adult who attended the party were later taken to the police station for further questioning. It was not immediately known if either would be charged.

Toliver was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 a.m., said Cambria County Deputy Coroner Joe Hribar.

He said that an autopsy was conducted and investigators are awaiting toxicology reports before ruling on a cause of death. The youth has no prior medical issues and there was no trauma on his body

“We suspect is was a drug overdose,” Hribar said.

---- He said the boy’s adopted grandmother and biological father traveled from Pittsburgh to Johnstown to identify the body.

---- Janciga said three city detectives worked the case for four hours Sunday.

---- The investigation continues and police are still trying to put together a time line of Toliver’s whereabouts in the days leading up to his death.

---- “Where he was between when he went missing and now,” Janciga said, “is a large question.”
