A Butler County man and his hunting dog were struck by a vehicle this morning in a hit-and-run crash in northeastern Lawrence County, authorities said.

Logan D. Kind, 24, of Slippery Rock Township suffered a moderate leg injury in the wreck about 7 a.m. on Georgetown Road in Washington Township. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. His condition was not known.

Kind's dog, a Labrador retriever, was killed.

State police said Kind and another person, who they did not identify, were on the side of the road getting hunting gear out of their truck. The two were preparing to go goose hunting.

While unloading the gear, their dog ran onto the two-lane road. Kind ran from behind the truck to retrieve the black lab when a vehicle traveling west on Georgetown Road struck the man and dog just west of Davis Road.

Police said an unknown man driving the vehicle "stopped for (a) brief moment before fleeing" the crash.

The Volant Volunteer Fire Department assisted police with traffic control.
