Gloria Caron Lucey

Gloria Caron Lucey passed away Sept. 11.

She was born July 20, 1928, in Iron Mountain, Mich. After her family moved from Bruce, Wis., to the Chicago area, she graduated from Maine Township High School in Des Plaines, Ill.

In Des Plaines, she met her husband when she sold him a record in a music store. It was love at first sight.

While raising three children, she attended and graduated from Slippery Rock College, summa cum laude, then taught English in the Fox Chapel Area School District. Always creative, she used Joni Mitchell to teach poetry. Always determined, she walked the picket lines in Harrisburg for teachers' rights.

Friends and family remember her for her gourmet cooking, needlework, love of literature and gardening as well as her strength, kindness, generosity, gentleness and graciousness.

As a friend once said, “She was a beautiful person both inside and out.”

She loved her family and loved her pets. She will be missed.

She is predeceased by her husband of 52 years, Patrick J. Lucey; her parents, Clifford and Laura McGinnis Caron; and her brothers, Ronald and John Caron.

She is survived by her three children, Dorian (Ann) Lucey of Gainesville Fla., Elizabeth (David) Voltz of O'Hara Township, Allegheny County, and Charlotte (Mark) Fleck of Bradenton, Fla.; her eight grandchildren, Brendan (Cynthia) Lucey, Cameron (Janice) Lucey, Christopher (Jennifer) Voltz, Laura (Bryan) Teschke, Ann (Vincent) Sokalski, Susan Fleck, Emma Fleck and Carrie Fleck; her 10 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Benjamin, Liam, Sean, Jack, Jocelyn, Rowan, William, Patrick and Thatcher; and her nieces and nephews.
