Janet Alberta West

Janet Alberta West, 82, of Slippery Rock passed away Wednesday at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Grove City, where she was a resident for the past five years.

Janet was born Feb. 5, 1934, in Grove City, Mercer County, in the community of Hallville, to William Arthur “Art” McNeish and Alberta G. Foster McNeish. She married John Garrett West on June 13, 1957.

She was a 1952 graduate of Slippery Rock High School and later graduated from a two-year program, unique at that time, at Grove City College in secretarial and book-keeping studies. She worked as a book keeper for McGowan Lumber in Slippery Rock from 1954 to 1957 and did the same work for Pennsylvania Refining at its Butler office from 1957 to 1959.

Janet was a member of the Highland Presbyterian Church. She and her family loved family camping and to travel throughout the United States. They visited Alaska twice.

Janet was kind, gentle and caring. She loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, John at home in Slippery Rock; three daughters, Kathy L. Garner and her husband, Dennis J., of Harrisville, Karen E. West of Butler and Janet E. West and her fiancé, Brian Burnor, of Chesapeake Beach, Md.; and her granddaughter, Emma Elizabeth West.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Arthur Dale “Buddy” McNeish.

WEST — Family of Janet Alberta West, who died Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock.Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home with the Rev. Doug Turner, pastor of the Highland Presbyterian Church, presiding.Interment will take place Monday at the Slippery Rock Cemetery.
